HIGH SCHOOL BAND AND CHOIR - MR. RANDY BEYER
Randy Beyer has been the High School Band and
Choir director at Riverton since 2002. Before returning to his home town of Riverton, Randy attended Friends University in Wichita, Kansas where he earned his Bachelor of Music Education Degree. He then went on to teach in Cedarvale, KS for two years and then moved on to Baxter Springs, KS where he taught for another 10 years. Randy’s main focus at Riverton is at the High School where he is in charge of the band and choir programs and directs the yearly school musical. In addition to the high school programs, he assists at the middle school with their band and choir programs as well. Randy is married to his lovely wife Carrie, and they have two wonderful sons, Zane and Nile. |
MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND AND CHOIR - MRS. MAKAYLA COONROD
Makayla Coonrod is currently in her first year of teaching. Makayla grew up in SE Kansas
where she attended school in Columbus, KS. After graduating high school, Makayla went on to obtain her Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. Makayla teaches middle school band and choir here at Riverton as well as assisting the high school's band and choir. Makayla and her husband Jacob live on a farm outside of town and have two cats, Tom and Autumn. |
ORCHESTRA - MRS. CARLA HENSON
Carla Henson has been Director of Orchestras at Riverton Schools since 1975. Her
students, ranging from third grade through twelfth grade are the joy of her career. Mrs. Henson holds a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Pittsburg State University as well as numerous graduate hours. In addition to her tenure at Riverton Schools, she plays cello with the Ozark String Quartet, has directed pit orchestras for a multitude of musicals, and directs the orchestra at Riverton Friends Church. She and her husband, Tim, have five children and eight grandchildren, and reside in Joplin, Missouri with their cat named Sissy. |
ELEMENTARY MUSIC - MRS. LORI SCANTLIN
Lori Scantlin just started her 17th year of
teaching, her fifth year at Riverton, and her first year as Riverton's elementary music teacher. Previously Mrs. Scantlin taught band and choir grades 6-12 with Mr. Beyer. Lori graduated from Pittsburg State in 1996 and began her teaching career in the Kansas City area. She has taught choir in Galena and Pittsburg (along with high school orchestra) and in the Wichita area. She was the director of choirs at Hutchinson High School before coming to Riverton in 2012 with her husband, Roger, to become the pastors of Spring River Assembly of God. Roger and Lori have two daughters. Sam graduated from Riverton in 2017 and is currently studying music education as a voice major at Friends University. Emma is a sophomore at RHS and is very active in the music department and in athletics. |
